Purple embodies the balance of red’s stimulation and blue’s calm – a beautiful dichotomy which creates mystic, authoritative and royal qualities. Purple is a color often well-liked by very creative or eccentric types and is used boldly in painting, decorating – and even couture.
Pantone selected Ultra Violet as its color of 2018 for its “originality, inventiveness, imagination, ingenuity, visionary thinking and creative inspiration”. The deep purple has already become the signature through classics like David Bowie, Prince, and Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze. Architectural Digest suggests the selection of this bold, blue-tinged purple hue has probably been flooding the creative conversations inside paint companies since announced. AD suggests this regal tone will find its way into homes as paint accents and interior accessories.
Ultra Violet was also the inspiration for world-renown fashion designer, Zac Posen, as he created a line of new, elegant uniforms in ‘Passport Plum’ for Delta’s global group of 20,000 flight attendants. Posen chose Passport Plum for a variety of reasons including the fact that it combines Delta’s iconic red and blue brand colors. “The regal hue has the ideal balance of historic inspiration yet innovative fashion design to carry Delta into the future as an industry leader.”
